Yoga Practice for Beginners

Updated on August 20, 2014

Your Daily Practice!

Your yoga practice can be a place where you create an inner stillness that can play a huge roll in balancing your life. Even ten minutes a day can make a difference.

Yoga poses can make for better digestion, tone your muscles and create a feeling of well-being.

I remember when I started yoga, my teacher at the time reminded us that we were practicing the poses. That the point wasn't in being perfect but in being in action and giving it our best.

I have to say that my favorite part of my yoga practice is always the mediation at the end of it. Often I fall asleep!

The Many Benefits of Yoga

Yoga has long be thought of as a way to bring both physical and emotional benefits to the body. People who practice regularly report a profound effect on their ability to reduce stress in their life and shape their bodies.

Yoga is considered a science. What does that mean? In India, Yoga is seen as a collection of principles that are based on observations.

Yoga is an exercise that seeks to understand how the body reacts and changes as a result of daily practice. Yoga is not just the physical expression of exercise, there is also the calming of the mind through meditation.

It is important to note that meditation is a means of stress reduction and practicing yoga regularly has been found to reduce the effects of stress related illness such as allergies or chronic pain.

As well as the physical exercise and mediation found in yoga, breathing is another important part of the equation. It is important to get the breathing right as this will build flexibility, strength and endurance.

People who practice yoga know that are bodies are susceptible to all sorts of toxins from both the environment and the food we eat. They believe that combining the yoga postures (asanas) with breathing and mediation helps to rid our bodies of these toxins resulting in a healthier body and mind.

Yoga is one of the best thing to do... Many of the poses, such as downward dog, upward dog, and plank pose, build upper-body strength.
