You Need Not Go It Alone
The struggles that we go through in life can at times seem so insurmountable. They seem like they can never be conquered. It can be difficult in life trying to get ahead. It can be difficult trying to move on from a negative past.
The rumination that our minds constantly bombard us with is one of the most dangerous enemies we will ever have in life because it ultimately robs us of our present and keeps us in a state of anger and depression.
It can be difficult trying to live a life of happiness, but it is attainable.
Understand that we are all battling in life and that every battle that has been fought and won was not by a single soldier but by a soldier and his allies. You need not go through life fighting your demons alone.
Whatever it may be that you are trying to do or whatever you are trying to overcome, understand that there is no shame in asking for help.
There is in society this pervasive idea that to be a Man you must be able to handle everything by yourself. That to be a Man you cannot ask for help. A Man is strong and reliant.
Now, this is true to an extent. A Man is strong. A Man can be self-reliant. Perhaps one of the "Manliest of Men," Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote a brilliant essay on being self-reliant (which I highly recommend every person should read). However, no battles have ever been won by one single individual.
An individual could have been very crucial in winning the battle, but he didn't win the battle alone. Likewise, the battles that rage on in our minds and hearts are battles, that too, are deserving of allies to help in winning these battles.
Let us take for example a man who is trying to get through a divorce. The support of friends and the help that he can get from men who have already been through a divorce will prove to be invaluable sources of strength in those most trying and troubling times.
To be a man is not to be without emotions and if life teaches us anything, it will beat us down. But if we have someone in our corner, if we have good people in our corner we can continue instead of throwing in the towel.
We are all brothers in this fray that we call life. We are all battling our past and our inner demons, but we need not do it alone. To be a man is not simply about fighting your battles but it is also about helping our fellow man; male and female, old and young, animal and human.
We can only go but so far in life by ourselves. With a helping hand, we can go so much further in life. Reach out to a person in need, and you will find in yourself a strength you never even knew you had.
The fray that we call life is a never-ending battle, but if you have strong enough allies on your side, you will be able to give life a good knock on its back. Stay Strong.
