Zenni Optical Review: Making It Possible to Buy Quality Eyeglasses Online
Zenni Optical Rating
If you are like me and need to wear glasses full-time, then you know how expensive they are. True, a lot of big optical brands like Specsavers often have deals, but if you want a decent-looking frame and good quality lenses (and some of us need mid-index or high-index lenses), then the cost of your glasses will go up. Unless you buy them online from Zenni Optical.
What is Zenni?
Zenni Optical is a company that specializes in eyeglasses. The frames they offer have nice designs, but they are more than affordable because they are not designer brands. Same goes for the lenses - everything is manufactured in Hong Kong. This means that Zenni can keep their prices low and offer a great choice of frames and lenses at the same time.
Zenni Frame Fit
Zenni Optical has a great feature called Zenni Frame Fit. Basically, it allows you to upload your photo and try different glasses. So you will be able to see whether the frame style suits you or not and only then decide to order (or not).
Does Zenni sell good quality glasses?
To cut a long story short - yes. True, they are not designer glasses, but Zenni frames are well made. As for the lenses, they are good quality too and you can upgrade your order with better lenses if you want to. If you've ever bought goods that are made in Hong Kong, you won't have any doubts about the quality.
Zenni prices are amazing. You can get complete prescription glasses for as low as $6.95. Yes, you read it right. True, it will be a basic frame and the lenses won't have anti-reflection coating (that costs $4.95 extra), but the quality will still be good. Most Zenni frames cost between $12 and $26. As for the lenses, the prices vary depending on the index (high index lenses are more expensive), tint, and so on. You can even order glasses with light-sensitive lenses.
Shipping prices are also great because you pay for the whole order, no matter how many pairs of glasses it contains. Standard US shipping costs only $4.95 and international shipping costs $9.95.
My experience with Zenni Optical
When I first found Zenni Optical online, it took me a while to order from them because I was somewhat uneasy about ordering glasses online. My main reason was my prescription, which is not exactly straightforward. People who have astigmatism will know what I'm talking about because they know how important it is to get the cylinder exactly right. If the axis is wrong, the glasses are useless. My second reason for thinking twice when ordering from Zenni was shipping. I live in Russia and only too often things get lost or broken in the post.
After a lot of thinking, I decided to order a pair. I consulted Zenni's online chat consultant before ordering and made sure they shipped to Russia. So I placed my order, paid with a credit card (unfortunately, Zenni doesn't accept PayPal), and started waiting. Five days after I placed the order, I got an email from Zenni that my glasses were ready and that they had been shipped by Hong Kong post. And there was a tracking number for the package. Two weeks later (which is amazing for Russia - only too often things take more than a month to get here from Europe), I got my glasses. They were intact and it was nice that Zenni included a free case and a cleaning cloth.
When I tried the glasses on, I felt that they matched the prescription exactly. But I wanted to be sure, so I took them to my optician who confirmed that they were well made and that they were made according to my prescription.
Now I have four pairs from Zenni - two ordinary pairs, one pair of prescription sunglasses and a pair with light-sensitive lenses. They are great and I love the fact that I got four pairs for the price of one (that's how much it would have cost to make a pair with my prescription here in Moscow). All my friends are envious and I'm enjoying wearing different styles of glasses. I'll definitely order from Zenni again.
