Most parents will comment that their children have just way too much energy. They enroll their children in conventional activities such as basketball, baseball, football and soccer. There is even a funny Volkswagen commercial where a young uncle takes his niece and nephew in his VW to a hill and makes them run up and down the hill until they are totally exhausted. One of my colleagues told me about Zumba being a great way to unwind some of kids' energy, I had to check it out for myself, and I am amazed how much fun this activity is. When I asked my daughter whether she has heard about Zumba, she replied that she does Zumba every Thursday in her afterschool program.

Zumba is a dancing fitness activity incorporating the moves of Latin America. It is also known as a Dance Party because it is so much fun that it keeps you interested. Your kids will be very comfortable with their bodies and movements that when they ever attend a dance, they will be ready. The dance is relatively fast so that it has a cardiovascular aspect. Anyone can put together fast pace movements to fast pace Latin American trance beats, and there is no right or wrong to the movements; however, there are classes where dance instructors will lead you through the steps for each song. One type of Latin American moves is called the merengue, which involves the movement of the hips and the shuffling of both legs in a marching movement with the upper body moving as well. The merengue is taught in the second video. Another move is cumbia, which is rocking walk.

I have found several good Youtube videos to show you how the instructors teach the moves to incorporate. These are different instructors so that if you like them, you can look for their other videos.

It is quite trendy in CA, and I think it is here to stay. Thanks for your comment.

Great share. My wife uses Zumba fitness on the wii and she has the DVD as well. My boys never used them, but my wife lost over 25 lbs with the DVD program 6 months after having our second son. She is fit and healthier than ever, back to her pre-kid shape and weight and totally addicted to the dance workouts.

Teaches12345, I believe that Zumba has Cuban influence. So with a lot of Cuban Americans in Florida, I imagine that Zumba may have an earlier history in Florida than in CA. Thanks for visiting. I always appreciate your feedback.

Zumba is really popular here in South Florida, guess the Latin influence has something to do with it. I watched the last "la cumbia" and I think if I take it slow, I can do it. Maybe. Enjoyed the hub.
