Your adult dental problems can be fixed by the magic of adult orthodontics! "Adult orthodontics, you say? Aren't braces for kids?!" The answer is a resounding no. But Won't Adult Braces Make Me Look Like a Teenager?

Not necessarily.  Orthodontics have improved by leaps and bounds in the last 30 years.  The braces of the 21st century are a far cry from the metal monstrosities you wore as a kid.  There are a variety of materials your orthodontist can use to construct your adult braces, from ceramics to the very popular Invisalign brand of clear aligners, there is an adult orthodontic piece out there for your individual needs and budget!

Types of Adult Orthodontics Available

Adult Clear Aligners

Clear aligners, such as those produced by Invisalign, are completely transparent plastic orthodontic appliances that conform to your top and bottom arches. The clear and An adult will typically go through 20-30 sets of clear aligners before their teeth are properly straightened.

Adult Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are very similar to metal adult braces, but they differ in one key fact. Ceramic braces have tooth-colored brackets which blend in with your teeth. This makes the braces less noticeable and it conceals them quite well. Ceramic braces are usually more expensive than metal braces, and your dentist might not use them if your orthodontic problems are too severe.

Adult Lingual Braces

Lingual braces go behind the teeth, and are thus concealed from plain sight. This makes them highly sought after by adults embarassed about wearing an adult orthodontic appliance. Lingual braces are typically made of stainless steel crafted to adhere to the backs of ones teeth. Some difficulties arise with lingual braces, however. These braces can make it hard to talk, due to interference with the tongue, and they are also more difficult for the orthodontist. Orthodontists need special training to work with lingual braces, and not all will provide them.
