Are there natural remedies for treating or controlling asthma?

I hate using a puffer, but even with the use of a puffer I am still coughing daily. I've complained to the specialist, but haven't met with any success.

caffeine opens the airways. you night try coffee.
there are so many different types of puffers. sounds like you may need something in addition to what you are already taking.
also, you may want to have your doc watch you use the puffer to make sure you have good technique. if the med doesn't get to your lungs, it can't help. puffer timing is tricky.
cough is a symptom of uncontrolled asthma. if your doc won't listen, perhaps it's time for a doc change.

The question raised by the Huber is: Are there natural remedies for treating or controlling asthma?

    The answer is "Yes".
    The reasons are:-
    (i) The health is the other name of balance in the functions of body.
(ii) Try to find out in what sort of your behaviour the discomfort seems reducing. Gradual adoption of such behaviour will prove beneficial and a stage will come when proper balance will be attained.
(iii) Food, climate, environment, companionship all contribute towards improvement.
(iv) Creator has given life. He is all powerful. Diverting attention towards His mercy and Kindness and asking for pardon over shortcomings is also a natural healer of many diseases.
    (v) The specialists are also God's blessing, they spent their prime age time in getting scientific knowledge and they have love and respect for their patients, hence their advices should not be taken lightly. Those are in the welfare and betterment of the patient. What the suggest must be followed. Real healer is God Almighty. Remember Him every moment. Of course, sometimes the disease overpowers to such an extent that even the Prophets like Hadrat Ayyub (peace be upon  him) prayed before God Almighty:
O My Lord! certainly I have been overpowered. So Thou come to my help.

May God Almighty bless you and all every where.

I think their are several things you can do to limit the suffering of asthma, I dont believe they are cures but they should help.

    1. Water purification- a lot of people dont know that breathing in chlorine fumes while showering can bring on asthmatic problems, trust me the steam you see when showering is not from heat its the chlorine. they have purification technology just for your shower so you wont need an entire home unit. try kdf.com I believe thats the web site for a really good system.

    2. air purification- most often than not the air in your home can cause more problems for you than the air outside. I would check into those two things and I promise you will have fewer problems

Both my kids had asthma. My son got a severe attack and was hospitalized.

Now they are free from asthma. My method to heal them was simply letting them go for swimming lessons. They had completed their courses for survival training and now they no longer having asthma. Taught that to my young brother as his kids also had asthma. They also went through the swimming courses and also free from asthma.

I believe you should try it and see if it works for you.

I just saw this on a movie....  A girl put honey on a cloth or napkin and put it over someone's nose and mouth.  She told the person to breath in through his/her nose and out through his/her mouth.  Or is it the opposite?  Any validity to this?

Do some research into the herb "mullein". I haven't used it personally since I do not suffer from asthma but I have read in a number of places that it provides relief. Hope that helps.

Using the puffer is useless if it only contains a vessel dilator.  If it contains a steroid, then it will help to heal the inflammation to an extent but steroids should not be used for a long time because of their side effects.

You cough because the airway is blocked by mucus. Mucus arise because the cell surfaces are injured. So you can do the following:

    1. Buy an ambroxol tablet 30mg and take it tablet three times daily. This will dissolve the mucus and clear the airway.

    2. Do not take sweet food because this will trigger the production of mucus.

    3. Take 1000 mg of vitamin C tablet once a day (assume you are an adult). This will strengthen your immunity as well as make the blood vessels strong so that the surfaces will not be easily injured.

    4. Take 1000mg of omega 3 capsule. This will heal any inflammation in the body

    5. Take a multi vitamins and minerals tablet once daily as this will provide food for all the cells in the body.

You will see the difference in a month's time. Good luck.

Many thanks to everyone for supplying me with your ideas.  I am taking each to heart.

My frustration with the lack of support from my general doctor and specialist has left me determined to find an alternate way to deal with the asthma.

I am also concerned with using puffers steady, after reading the information that comes with the puffer.  As one of you stated, you're not to use these continually, but the doctor says to ignore the warning.

    Thanks

Theobroma cacao (aka chocolate!) and theophylline (in tea!) are both natural remedies for asthma. You may want to consider getting an allergy evaluation too - many times controlling allergies leads to decrease in asthma symptoms. If you are allergic, learn means of controlling triggers in your home (such as using non-toxic household products, dust mite covers on bedding, and an air purifier). I was a nurse for a decade (worked in allergy for the first 3 years) and used to suffer from asthma.

Here are some remedies which I have tried and have really help me!

    1.

Put one full cup of water in a mug. Pour into a pot and then peel off 4 cloves of garlic and add to the pot. Bring to boil for about four minutes and then allow cooling (cool enough to drink). Drain into a mug and drink like normal tea.

I usually have this asthma remedy in the morning and evening (when I can remember to do it). It helps reduce any asthma flare ups during the day. You can add or reduce the amount of cloves to suite how strong or mild you want it to be.

This remedy is also very effective if you have a cold.

    2.

This is one of my favorite asthma home remedies.

This remedy has exactly the same process as the one above, only this time you use ginger instead of garlic. Wash about the size of a palm of ginger and then cut into small pieces (cut according to your preferences).

Put into a pot with water and bring to boil, leave to get cool then drink like normal tea.

Again, this home remedy for asthma is very useful for cold as well. Colds can cause asthma flare ups and by eliminating colds could also help preventing asthma flare ups. Either way, it has helped me with my asthma.I was also told that the two can be boiled together and should have effective results.

I also have asthma. In order to control it, I do everything that is good for it. Now I do foot massage every day. It is effective for me. You can go to read my hub to learn to do it. Maybe it is good for you, too.
