   Can you tell me more about your hip surgery, Amy?
   
   I am a female almost 53 and have advanced arthritis in both hips, genetic hip dysplasia...left hip worse, I am to the point of scheduling hip replacement surgery and just read you had recently had this done, just wanted to get some tips, information from you how it all went, advice?

   I'd be happy to tell you about my experiences! You already know the basics of my story, but I've found that you can pretty much find something new to talk about when it comes to advanced dysplacia and hip replacement surgery on a daily basis! My problem was (is) very similar to yours. I was diagnosed In early 2008 with osteoarthritis, primarily of my right hip. I'm an American living in Holland. Over here, they're firm believers in PT, so I started going on a weekly basis.  Over the course of 2 years, despite the exercise, which I did religiously, the deterioration in both hips continued to the point where in December '10, my PT advised me to see a surgeon.  My range was pathetic. I waddled everywhere I went, was restricted with every activity, even simple housework, grocery shopping, etc. I don't have to tell you. I'm pretty sure you know EXACTLY what it's like! When the day of my appointment finally arrived (5 weeks later), I had X-rays taken first & when the surgeon saw them, he said he'd never seen such severe dysplacia in both hips that had advanced to the extent that mine had.  He suggested both surgeries take place this year (I cried with happiness), and the left hip was replaced on 15 Feb, rear approach. From day 1, the improvement was noticeable.  I'm 9 weeks postop now, and the only pain I've had throughout most of my recovery period has been from my bad hip & the subsequent lower back pain from walking on one good hip/one bad hip unaided. I've read SueRN's comment to you, and she's right. It's totally worth doing. Like you and Sue, I have a busy job, a family, etc but I didn't have much of a life anymore. By the end of the year, I expect to be 100 percent again. My 3 month check up is in 3 weeks, when we'll discuss the next operation. As far as I'm concerned, the sooner the better!
