Hi, I of course am not a dentist, but from what I know, if there is enough healthy tooth and root, a cap or crown would, I think, be preferable because you are keeping your original tooth. Also for implants you need to make sure you have enough bone so that the implant could take. If you have a dentist you trust, let him educate you. Also, for your teeth, as with any other medical surgery, it might be wise to get a second opinion. I also look at who is dispensing the info and what might they gain by leading you one way or another. If the tooth is not salvageable or continues to be an expensive and going problem, I would think implants is the way to go. Teeth are necessary but burdensome, but so is not having teeth.
