No it is not. To murder is to take the life of another.
Abortion is to stop a cluster of cells growing within your own body from further developing.
The reasons for abortion are many and nobody ever "wants" an abortion but there are times when it is the best one can do under given circumstances.
A young woman with little or no support is hardly in the position to care for a child and both lives are dragged down.
A woman is the victim of rape or incest and not only doesn't want the child but often hates and abuses one that she is forced to have.
A fetus shows signs of deformity or retardation and the resulting child doesn't have a chance at a real life and puts such strain on the family that it can break them both emotionally and financially. Just look at the divorce rates and abuses within families with these children.
Nobody likes the idea of abortion and later than the first trimester it is far worse. The fear and hysteria over abortion sometimes stops a woman from dealing with it earlier which is sad. The so called "late term abortions" are really quite rare and almost always either to save the life of the mother or because the fetus has sever problems.
In all cases medical decisions whether it is abortion or assisted suicide should be made by patients and doctors not by zealots and politicians.
Abortion has been around since ancient times and up until R v W were often performed in back alleys, cars or sleazy motels. Do we really want to go back to those dark times when women were maimed or even killed by quacks?
Abortions will always be available to those with money and means, when we talk about outlawing abortion we are really saying outlawing it for the poor.
We do know that there is a direct line between the availability of abortion and the decline in crime, especially violent crime.
The best answer to reducing or eliminating abortion is through the promotion of education about birth control and making it accessible to everyone.
Sexuality isn't going to change, abstinence has never worked in the past and it won't be any better tomorrow.
The saddest thing is that the same crowd who wants to ban abortion also is opposed to birth control... not the brightest group are they?
