I stopped in 1 afternoon with acupuncture. I never had any cravings or any desire to smoke again.
I sent around 20 people to the same clinic and all but 2 had the same results.
Of the 2; 1 a musician just chose not to quit and never really tried. The other quit for 3 years and then started again. I also consider that to be simply choosing to smoke. She certainly had no addiction after 3 years.
I was a 3 pack a day smoker. The only after effect I ever had was that I would dream that I had started again. I would wake up really POd at myself for being so stupid, then realize it was only a dream. The frequency of these dreams fell over the years and now I have one maybe once a year. I quit in 1982 so it isn't likely that I would ever start again.
I never used any substitute of any kind, or had any gain in appetite, however after about 3 years my sense of taste and smell returned completely.
The style of acupuncture can vary a great deal I know people who tried it and it didn't work. But when they describe the process it is completely different than what I had.
At the time my Dr. told me that he could break any form of addiction the same way. I have no reason to disbelieve him but I don't know anyone who tried him to quit anything other than smoking.
The funny thing is that I didn't believe in acupuncture at the time and I wasn't hung up on quitting. A friend quit with him and started bugging me. I had numerous friends who had tried things like the Schick Center ($800 at the time) and every one of them had gone back. I told my friend that if he wasn't smoking after 8 weeks I would go, mostly just to shut him up. 8 weeks later to the day he walked up and handed my the clinic's card. I went that afternoon, had a cigarette in the parking lot waiting for my appointment time... that was my last butt. ($60 att)
The appointment lasted 1 hour. They had me come back the next day for a follow up, which I did, but I didn't need the second treatment I was cured after the first.
The next day I just had to test it so I went to the neighborhood bar and had 4 Old Fashions, no desire to smoke what-so-ever even though others around me were smoking and one even offered me one.
