This question is somewhat complicated, but I'll try to take a stab at it.
To some people a simple thing that seems to last might not be as interesting, as those things that come quickly and appear to have a great deal of pizzazz or spiciness to it, for example a lustful relationship that's 9 times out of 10 doomed to fail.
The world is filled with many differing flavors sort to speak, so as people choose what they like, many of them also fail to realize the time factor or decaying process involved in fulfillment of such desires, just as a fantasy or fictitious wish being instantly granted from a genie in a lamp. (Aladdin)
This may be reason why the most appealing things are also the ones that tend to fade much more quickly, it really is something of a perplexing thing of sorts.
Nice Question :)
