It depends on the fall. We live in an Independent Living facility (not quite "assisted"). The staff here are instructed NOT to assist people who have fallen. They automatically call the fire department ambulance. The fear is that further damage can be caused by trying to help someone up. Of course, common sense prevails in most cases, especially if the reason for the fall is known. In this case, there is always the fear of a law suit if the "assist" did harm. The rules are different in Assisted Living homes where the staff are medical professionals.
