My advice would be to swim, its a lot easier on all your injuries, you also build strenght and stamina with out as much stress on the injured areas.  I mean slow easy type stuff, not  a mad dash like you're going to try out for the olymics...If you are interested in something a little more structured the ymca usually has exercise programs in water if they have a pool and they have different types of exercise classe in or out of water.

    Problem Details

Herniated disease primarly affects spine, idiopathic(inner or outer tearing) or fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc.
Here is the link to its details

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinal_disc_herniation

This is a difficult condition to heal and proper doctor prescription is required before any exercise routine cos without it there is a high chance that the symptoms can gt worse.

    Exercises that can be done

1.Use a simple therapy ball(BIG) ,sit on it face facing straight and arms on sides an gently move up and down in a slow but steady order for 5 minutes. This will allow more blood circulation to the injured disc areas and will lead to faster healing.

2.Simple yoga exercises like pranayama can increase the oxygen flow throughout your body which will lead to overall wellness.
Here is the link about how to do pranayama

3.Exercises like Single knee to chest,Double knee to chest,Pelvic lift and trun k rotation can be done only after proper guidance from an exercise expert but can be done if properly guided and will be very beneficial for you.
Here is a link which explains the process by the use of pictures.
