I think it is very important to learn how to swim. You may think you don't want to and will never need it, but what if something happened where you needed to know? Hopefully this will never happen to any of you and this is just a for instance, but what if you end up getting in an accident and your car happens to go off a bridge into water? I'm sure then you'd wish you had learned. Even if you never go to the pool or beach, it may come in handy later on. Or maybe you just one day do decide to go or your friends and family want you to go, and then you'll wish you knew how.
I was taught by my parents/grandparents initially I guess, but in 3rd or 4th grade I think it was, we actually had swimming lessons through school. We would all get on a bus and go to the highschool and take lessons. We learned all the different types of strokes like back-stroke, forward, etc. We learned how to dive, pretty much everything.
