Have you ever saved a person's life?
I don't want responses from doctors, nurses, or EMT's, they do that on a daily basis.
I am a RN but I saved a person's life through CPR. It was my middle son who was choking. He turned blue and it was extremely scary. We called 911 but after I started CPR he came to and they arrived. It was a scary time!
Yes i have about two or three times, and the same person too.
Yes. I was a young teen and my friend's little brother was taking a toy metal car that for some reason was tied to a stout string. He was holding the string against his neck and then swinging the car out and letting the weight of the car wind it around his neck. We didn't pay much attention as he did it time and again.
One final time he did it, it was too tight and he could not get it untangled and unwrapped from around his neck. I jumped up and scraped and pulled until it finally came off. The poor little guy's face was turning blue. I have to assume he would have strangled if no one was there.
Does it count if you've saved their sanity by being a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on?
I believe that most of us who have children have probably saved their lives. I pulled my daughter out of a pool twice when she was under 2 years old. I grabbed my son's hand once just before he was going to step into the street, and there was an oncoming car.
Funny, now I feel like the world's worst mother...but no matter how much you teach your children, and watch your children, things still happen.
I've been trained, but never given anyone CPR or first aid. I just haven't been in that type of situation.
I think I saved my old dog's life several times. When we were walking I had him on a leash so he wouldn't get hit by cars. Does that count because he's a dog?
I have saved several lives. I saved my sister from drowning, our mom would not jump in and save her because she did not want to get wet. We were both very young.
There was an old lady, a boy, and a dog locked into a new apartment place in the front door. they were getting mail and one door was boarded because of the homeless sleeping there, and the other had shut and locked behind them and that was the only real way in or out. Me and my girlfriend and our friends were walking by and noticed they were asking for help. We had to rip the boards out of the wall to let them out from our outside way. The people told us what had happened and they said they were in there for hours. And the thing is it was on a very busy street so people saw, but no one helped. There was one man just watching from his business from across the street. Someone should have helped sooner, she said she tired breaking the glass with the fire extinguisher and flagging people and everything. I can't believe no one helped them sooner.
And several other people. I really don't consider it saving, I consider it helping a fellow person in need.
As Mmargie1966 said, I have saved my boys a couple of times when they feel into pools. I went in fully clothed, wallet, phone and all and got them out before they even touched the bottom. I also may have saved a guy rafting (who knows what the outcome would have been) when he was thrown from our raft in some rapids. He went into the air and I dove and caught one foot as he went over. I was able to pull him back in the boat, so I may not have saved his life, but he would have been in for a tough ride for sure. At any rate, he was extremely grateful.
Well I happen to be a nurse and I have never saved anyone's life. I see people being given two days who have lived for years! Others being given 6 months and have lived for two years. I have seen great debates about moving people off life-support machines. Some recover after two years; others have their machines taken off in a very short time.
I saw your request but chose to answer. I am speaking from the standpoint that my experience is that only God is in charge, although doctors and nurses like to think they are. There are so many mysteries in this life. When I started nursing many years ago, it used to be said that we cannot live past five minutes without oxygen. Now we see people with hearts that are being stopped and have stopped for much longer.
There is always a Higher Source. If your loved ones fall ill, never forget to pray and have faith. At the same time, remember that the Supreme generally obeys the cosmic order, so also seek His Will. Much love.
