I used to make a sort of hot tea using a Trader Joe's honey-ginger spread that was meant for toast. I'd mix a generous spoonful of it in hot water and sip it. Clam chowder also helped, because it's creamy and soothing.
The most important thing for me was to be upright for at least two hours after meals. This isn't a cure, but if you lie down while there's still food in the stomach, that makes heartburn worse.
Drink lots of water.
Avoid caffeine, acidic foods like tomato sauce.
