What should I do about this pediatrician's charges for a 2-month well baby checkup

There was a lapse in insurance coverage. We forgot to add baby to the insurance policy, so he was not covered at the 2-month well baby check up, & our pediatrician's office did not check eligibility, so we inadvertently became cash patient. We paid $40 copay at the time of visit. The remainder they billed my insurance $250 or so, but was denied. But when they billed us, it was for $905. The well checkup included four immunization shots. We have been asking them to lower it, but they refuse. We are more than 120 days overdue on that bill, still trying to figure out what to do. Help!
