Let me start at the beginning .
Diabetes (diabetes mellitus )mainly refers to excessive glucose content in the blood due to lack of insulin production ( sugar regulator hormone ) which is manufactured in the pancreas .
diabetes insipidus normally occurs in excessive insulin production or low blood glucose levels but is less common than diabetes mellitus (D.M )
D.M. is normally of two types
insulin dependent (type 1)
non- insulin dependant (type 2 )
Insulin dependent diabetes is where body produces no insulin resulting in very high blood glucose levels . Type 1 D.M has an early onset age wise as early as in a person's 20's . Can only be managed with insulin injections , pumps ,etc
non insulin dependent diabetes is when body does produce a reasonable amount of insulin but not enough . Type 2 generally has a later onset age-wise ( not mandatory though ).
There is also something called pre- diabetes which can indicate susceptibility to diabetes at a later stage .
Diabetes is also known as a silent killer , because people often don't show symptoms of diabetes . But the most likely symptoms are excessive hunger , excessive thirst , excessive urination , dizziness , delayed wound haling , poly cystic ovarian disorder , slow healing eczema, thyroid , unexplained weight gain, etc etc. Some other symptoms of prolonged undetected diabetes is kidney problems , visual difficulties and peripheral neuropathy .
A lot of other diseases are said to have their root cause in diabetes .
Diabetes can only be confirmed by systematic blood testing .
To diagnose and keep a check on diabetics you must test your blood sugar levels and hba1c levels regularly . You can keep dyi kits at home to check blood sugar levels every morning . Of course medication prescriptions should be followed but diabetes in lots of cases can be controlled by lifestyle changes .
Since diabetes is considered largely to be a hereditary disease , first off by maintaining a healthy lifestyle while young you can push the onset or all together
even side step it !
Exercise is a must for diabetics and foods high in fibre help a lot .Avoid foods which are high in simple sugars including excessive fruit consumption . Regular heart check-ups are also a good idea in diabetics . The importance of exercise and diet cannot be stressed in diabetics .
Maintaining a healthy blood sugar level does not have to be an uphill battle for diabetics !
