Negative side effects of using or relying on sleeping pills

My doctor prescribed me some sleeping pills to be able to get some rest at night, but I found that after missing 2 nights in a row I was unable to sleep AT ALL and was NOT sleepy during the day. This was after about 6 weeks of use.

You'll get insomnia if your body adapts the pills and then you stop using them.  Major insomnia.  Source: Personal experience.  If you keep using them for a prolonged period of time, they'll eventually have zero effect.  At that point, you'll have to increase the dosage even more to continue to have any effect at all.  So on and so forth until the maximum safe dosage does nothing for you and if you want to sleep, you have to take a high enough dosage that your body is put at serious risk.  Prescribed by a doctor or not, drugs will never solve any problem.

Here are truths about sleeping pills:
    1)     Sleeping pills cause drowsiness the next day, confusion, forgetfulness and dry mouth.
    2)    If you keep using them you will need to take increased dosages in order to achieve the same effect. This can lead to an increase in negative side effects experienced, and to addiction in some people.
    3)    If your body is used to relying on sleeping pills and you suddenly need to stop taking them for some reason, your insomnia may very well become even worse than it was before you initially started using the pills.
    4)    If you become addicted to sleeping pills, you will find that you simply cannot sleep without them.
Sleeping pills are most effective to treat short-term sleep issues   The danger comes when people start to use them on a regular, consistent basis.
When there’s a need, consult a doctor before taking them.  Follow his advice to the letter.

Ok sounds about right especially #4 I've already setup an appointment and I did get some rest on the 3rd night but not much.I had to take half of a dosage though so I think finding something besides these pills will be best.Too much coffee maybe...

Some of us could not sleep before taking them. There are people with chronic insomnia, and I am one of them and have suffered from it since age 10. Held off on sedatives until age 50. Even  with the pills, I usually only manage six hours a night.

Sleeping pills should be prescribed by doctors only. I know people who pop all these energy drinks all day long, plus coffee and lattes, then at night wonder why they cant get to sleep. So basically what they're doing is forcing their bodies to be super energized during the day, and then popping pills to force their bodies to slow down at night. Now I'm not saying I dont have my morning coffee, I absolutely do, but moderation is key! If they slow down on the all the energy drinks during the day, it may help them rest easier at night.

I am going to slow down with the coffee since that is probably what my problem comes from.Usually about 5 cups daily,so it makes sense im supercharged at night lol.

Sleeping pills should be taken only under the direction. Do not get them from your neighbor for friends. Taken correctly, they can help. If abused, they can be dangerous.,
