Have you found 2012 to be tough on your health?

I've found myself to be exhausted, run down and easily coming down with illnesses since this winter. Most of my friends are finding the same thing, even though they're scattered out all over the country.
Given the exceptionally mild winter, this surprises me.
How about you? Are you and the folks you know more sick and tired than usual?

Try to practise yoga and meditation.  You can enjoy a better health.  Proper breathing enhances the quality of life

Yoga doesn't currently agree with my joints and sprained foot, but I do practice meditation and breathing techniques.

An interesting question. Off the hip as they say, "Yes." And, thinking about co-workers . . .maybe so. I'll ponder some more.

It has not been a bad year. I have had no colds and no flu. I kind of attribute it to the fact that I have not been working in the public setting. I guess I am able to escape the comon maladies for that reason.
I wish you and your friends welll..may the rest of 2012 bring you good health.

I know your question is serious but I had to smile because I know plenty of people who are "sick and tired" of the world recession!

Seriously though, I do know that stress affects your health and I've written a few Hubs about worrying and harboring negative feelings.

SWAMY19 and I agree about yoga and meditation as a solution to warding off the doldrums and promoting good health. I swear by it and I've been in good health.

Also, it's important to give yourself a break from work (even family). Vacations are part of a healthy lifestyle. So are proper eating habits and keeping good company.

    Hope you feel better soon!

      Thanks.

I actually do meditate, and am reasonably positive. It's something else...

Overall, with the added stress from just thinking about jobs, rising healthcare costs, childcare, college education cost/financing for yourself or kids, cost of food, bills, election year (the future of the country), and so on, can compromise the immune system tremendously. This can make the body more susceptible to different illnesses. Not to mention the psychological issues that we may develop from just thinking about these stressors of life! They can make us feel lethargic, energy drained, depressed and so on.

For me, a few of my 2012 resolutions were to exercise more frequently, eat healthier, set aside more time to pray and meditate, and also to develop better stress management strategies. This approach seems to be working for me so far. As a result, I am feeling much better than the past years. I recommend that you at least try to exercise if you have not been doing so, and try to get more sleep. In other words, you know your situation, more than I do, so do your best to stay healthier, this may help!

Actually, haven't been stressing much, certainly no more than normal. And exercise is out for now, as I have a sprained foot (another of this spring's incidents)

How strange Catherine.  I have had several severe colds with really nasty coughs that kept me awake at night.  I had to have a chest X-day just about 3 weeks ago; it came back okay, but I still have a coughing fit every now and again.

I also had a sick bug (very rarely get these).

In the past five years I only had 4 days off work in total until this year where I have already had 8 days (because my company counts the weekend).

    I do not smoke either!

I don't smoke either. Husband and self both had atypically bad flus that took 2 rounds of antibiotics to clear.
I'd think it a local situation, but friends all over the country are reporting similar

It was a mild winter here so it will be harder on asthma this year. Other than that I've been doing ok. Other people may be affected by the mild winter too. You may be feeling run down because the air you're breathing didn't get cleaned out by the cold during winter. A mild winter isn't really a good thing.

That's an interesting thought. Thank you.
(Must admit I enjoyed the mild winter, after the "over-my-head" snow we had last year...)

I eat a vegetarian diet, exercise daily, and make time to relax.  I  haven't been sick in at least a year.
