What do you do when you find out your health isn't what it could be?

For example, you go to the doctor's office and the doc requests labwork. You get it done thinking that nothing is wrong. When the labs come back, the doc won't talk to you but wants you to come in to discuss the results. That is a red flag right? So you go in to the doc's office and listen to what they have to say. As you hear the results, you start going numb. What do you do about it? Do you decide to take measures to take care of the problems (if possible), or do you just give up?
