The benefits of the a "single payer" health insurance, and the concept of Universal Healthcare have been universally accepted by almost every other nation and government in the world (including countries which would be considered totalitarian). Why has the american public been so eager to denounce the idea that all individual in their society should have access to healthcare?

Everyone should have the OPTION to buy, it should not be forced or handed out.
I must have missed something. How is it going to save our country billions? and don't assume it's just republicans against it. I'm not republican.
@peeples because healthy people don't have healthcare, so when they buy it, the price goes down because it costs the insurance company less to provide care to those people, and ultimately the entire market. It's pretty simple when you think about it
Furthermore, the country will no longer be paying medical bills for illegal immigrants and the uninsured who have been going to ERs and not paying a penny. Guess who's pocket that comes out of!
Harmony we have been uninsured many times and we pay our bills. Also no one(not tax payers) gets stuck paying er bills so that has nothing to with this. Pippin the price is going up already preparing for 2014. I doubt it will go down then.
Peeples when the government spends money it means the taxpayers are spending money....
The only time government pays health care bills is if the person is covered under medicaid or medicare. More people will be covered under the new bill in some states. That equals more for the tax payers. Uninsured doesn't equal government paying.
I still think its a good idea, because the costs of insurance will be less inflated. I think the most important thing is for people to not be fat, because that causes the highest increase in health care costs.
