How do you lose weight with smoothies

I just started making smoothies in an attempt to lose weight. How does this work, has anyone tried it?

Personally I don't believe in any such wonder remedy and I think the pictures are definitely fooling the buyer into believing that at least 100 pounds can be lost by drinking these smoothies. I guess how these wonder smoothies work is that instead of eating potentially fattening junk food, you substitute with these low calory drinks. They may even contain some ingredients which promote a healthy digestion or burn fat. I think that you could probably get the same results by making your own smoothies with fresh fruit and low-fat dairy. Avoid any additional sugar and make sure that everything you put in there is low fat. Ripe bananas are a wonderful sweetener and the addition of a few ice cubes will make the smoothie extra creamy without adding any calories. In this way you would drink something healthy and natural and probably still lose weight. The only way to a healthy weight loss that can be maintained is regular exercise and a healthy diet.

That's what my thinking was. I'm not trying to lose 100lbs, just trying to cut down on my sugar and calorie intake and get a better diet. I actually made my own this morning with banana, peanut putter, and yogurt.

If you replace meals like breakfast with a smoothie made with Açai you will not be hungry and not snack on high calorie foods. If you are just making typical smoothies like many of the hubs I have seen posted here you are not going to lose weight, but they will taste good.

I drink a smoothie every day and I've lost over 70lbs. But I also changed my diet and added exercise (I have a hub on it).

DrMark is right, if you're replacing a meal with a smoothie, you can lose weight. But it has to be the right type of smoothie. You want something that is not only satisfying to drink but will also keep you satiated. I use hemp protein in all my smoothies. My recipe is dark chocolate almond milk (for those chocolate cravings), yoplait's smoothie fruit mix (typically blueberry/pomegranate) and hemp protein. These are so yummy, and the protein keeps me from getting hungry. Plus the hemp protein contains branch chain amino acids which not only help with satiation and keeping you from getting hungry, they also boost energy levels. More energy means you can get in more exercise and lose weight while gaining muscle. The key is to gain lean muscle mass which will burn the fat for you.

I will definitely check out your hub, thank you. So basically try to use pure products, and I'm going to look a little more into gaining muscle rather than fat. Thank you so much, great to hear from someone who actually tried it.

I do try to stay with all vegan, and organic products, but it doesn't always work out that way. Less than 1% of my diet has any casein in it. Lean muscle increases your metabolism and burns the fat. Building muscle may cause weight gain initially.

A few months ago I decided to start eating healthy and change my way of thinking.  Rather than diet, I eat to live.  That means stay away from all the bad stuff and focus on fruits and vegetables.  What I find to work for me is a morning smoothie.  It will sound awful, but really tastes good.  It also keeps me feeling completely full for hours.

In a Blender use the following,  (you can substitute with different items but try to keep it packed with micronutrients found in the fruits and vegetables listed:

1/2 container of any lowfat yogurt
assortment of fresh fruits (bananas, apples, blueberries, etc.)  I use and assortment of three
    1/2 cup of fresh kale
    1/2 cup of fresh spinach
    1/4 cup of carrot juice
1/2 cup of frozen fruit (raspberries are very nutritious)
1 very small scoop of any flavor low fat frozen yogurt
Optional:  I add protein powder and some of my vitamins

Blend very well on high speed.  You will be surprised how good it tastes and you are getting a great assortment of fresh vegetables.  It will keep you feeling full until lunch, guaranteed smile
Try to incorporate a good salad for either lunch or dinner and always use lowfat dressing in moderation.
Use nuts, seeds or fresh fruits as a snack.
Stay away from anything with white flour, sugar, oil and limit your dairy and meat intake.
This is eating healthy and you should drop some weight as well.  I know that my cholestral dropped to a good normal range within three months of eating healthy.   Hope this helps.

I'm going to try that shake, thank you so much. I tried to cut down on oily and sugary foods. Also I started to EA Active on my playstation 3 to keep my cardio in check.

The simple question, "am I eating to live or living to eat" is the phrase I repeat to myself when I am tempted to eat the bad stuff.  It took me a good 4 weeks to get over the sugar and white flour cravings, but it does get easier with time smile

You can have banana smoothies. The fullness associated with eating bananas will prevent you from snacking on unhealthy foods throughout the day. You will remain satisfied until your next meal. You can cut up a banana into yogurt, or make a smoothie with low fat milk.

I saw acai mentioned as a good additive... another thing I'd suggest is super greens or wheat grass powders. I use a wheatgrass powder in my fresh juice (I use a juicer and a variety of veggies as often as  possible). It keeps me satiated for hours because I've gotten a lot of nutrients. If I feel hungry though, I will eat a snack between and also have a protein or fat with my drink, such as a handful of almonds.

The idea is balance, a smoothie can provide a lot of balance in your meals. Protein is another thing that can keep you satiated, so if you use powders in  your smoothies that can help with appetite also.

Another thing is that it's difficult to binge on a smoothie. The chances you will drink seven smoothies like you may plow through a bag of chips during your favorite tv marathon are low. The servings are typically single and take effort to make - I know that helps me with my waistline.

Sometimes eating healthier (smoothies CAN be unhealthy) also gives you the energy to work out, or your body will crave healthier things. I think the main way to lose weight though is that it is difficult to over do it.

Select a high quality whey protein powder to give some flavor and additional nutrients. What I make on most mornings: 1 scoop Strawberry flavored protein powder, 1.5cups almond milk, 1cup raspberries (strawberries, blueberries or a mixture), a table spoon of peanut butter, 1/4th cup plain yogurt and a handful of spinach (you can't taste it! So you get a veggie check mark for the day and with so little effort). I call it a peanut butter and jam smoothie. It has fruit/veggies, protein, and fat. All good stuff that keeps me really full.

Some things to avoid or use limitedly would be high-calorie juices... for example a smoothie with orange juice, pre-packaged smoothie mixes with added sugars, lots of peanut butter and all sorts of things.

Something cool I would recommend to keep your serving sizes in check would be a magic bullet or some sort of single serving blender that can become a cup. It also makes it easier to keep making the smoothies... I don't know about you but having to clean my huge blender is a real pain.

Oh! If you make too much... buy little Popsicle molds and you can pour the extra in there and use it as a nice snack later.

You want to lose weight with smoothies? You might try some of alternatives like drinking teas, juices that reduces fats and put some time to exercise (walking will do). You also need to lessen the fat calorie intake everyday.

The added fiber in the store bought smoothies make you evacuate your way into a one size smaller. That's why so easy to lose 5 pounds and then go into a 'plateau'.

I would rather have 25 grams of fiber in a shake than try to graze like a cow trying to incorporate that much fiber in a 'normal' diet.

I believe one has to look into the amount of calories intake if you are considering of losing weight. That is one of the main factor to reduce weight. Reduce your regular amount of calories and soon you will see your weight loss.
