Does stretching exercises need to be done with a workout?
I like to stretch to strengthen my back, shoulders and legs but sometimes I don't warm up first is this ok? or should I do some cardio to warm up first to prevent injuries.
It's not just about preventing injuries. Being flexible also helps you maintain a stride in running, balance, and works the proper muscle groups in weight lifting when you get a full range of motion. That being said, when I'm in a hurry some days I go for a run with out stretching out. =-P If you don't stretch out on a regular basis then you'll begin to notice the effects though even if you don't get injured. Time on runs will be slower, your muscle tissue (red-white) will be over worked or under worked from lack of proper range of motion and so-on.
Thankyou for the advice. relating to you anwer and another question: I suffer from some injuries mine are from over use can this healed if I continually to have no rest.
Yes this prevents, injury, reduce muscle soreness. Before a workout try stretching for 10 minutes. Stretching is very important(highly recommended)
The health expert at NPR said in an article that stretching might not be as good for you as you think. She claims that when you stretch a muscle you are actually more likely to get an injury because stretching it is a trigger for breaking. One should be very cautious with stretching and exercise, basically if it hurts don't do it.

Not at all. While I workout six days a week, I have one day per week exclusively dedicated to an hour of intense stretching. You'll find doing this has a lot of great benefits from reducing your risk of injury to breaking hard-to-beat plateaus and overall just feeling better.
While I'm stretching I feel so good, must be the rush of endorphins.
yes before starting a workout strecthing for 10 minutes warms up the muscles.
absolutely yes...It will help to stretch your muscles and make you prepared for a better work out..
Yes, stretching exercises can be part of the warm up itself, so you are actually warming up. There are many benefits to stretching and you do not need to work out to stretch.
I wasen't sure if warming up with stretching was considered as a work out. thankyou
