I wear a bite guard that I grind on all night. I have done physical therapy and stretches. Also, I had massage done of the lateral pterygoids. I recommend the first to protect your teeth. I recommend the last as it cleared my TMJ for a few days. My jaw wasn't slipping at all after the trigger points were released. That being said, it was agonizing having it done! My throat itched, my eyes were streaming... but then for a week I had no joint slippage!
I try to be nice to mine and make sure not to tire it too much. It doesn't lock like it used to when I was younger. Also, headaches don't seem to emanate as much from that area as they did pre-treatment. Oh - Elavil seems to help as well.
