Should I have my son sedated to get his baby teeth filled? He is eight years old.

My son is eight and has about 3-4 cavities, my mom says I should just wait until they fall out because they are just baby teeth. She thinks he is too young to get work done on his teeth. Should I get them filled? He hates the dentist and won''t let them open his mouth, I am nervous about them putting him to sleep. I just read an article about children dying during these operations. Has anyone had their children sedated and teeth filled? What were the results? Aren't they just going to fall out anyway?

Do you mind sharing what happened? They say if I leave his teeth in it will effect his adult teeth. They wanted to do twilight sedation or laughing gas.

Thanks for responding to my question.
