In December of 2010, I was released from the job I held for 22 years. I received a nice severance package and company-paid insurance for a year, so 2011 was like any year. I started my own PR firm, and it went nowhere.
So, 2012 came and I had money from the severance left, unemployment benefits had been approved, all my debt had been eliminated, and most of my time was spent trying to find insurance.
Now we are 2013. I am working part time, waiting to see if Obamacare is going to help me and waiting to draw Social Security at 62 later this year.
To answer your question, no one year prepares you for the challenges of the next year. It is the accumulated experience of all the preceding years that help you deal with the challenges of the coming year.
