I guess I'd say when I'm reading something really interesting, esp. when the topic involves research on my part to learn more about it. ^_^

Another great question Gary. So let's see...
When some...thing crosses my path that is directly related to the mode of thought I'm in, and which offers something new and exciting in its vision. I'm always tuned to people and information that reflect my personal passions and view on life, but I'm also looking for that little extra dose of inspiration to boost my wonder and enthusiasm.

My attention is most engaged when I'm not distracted by multiple things at once. I've never been great at multitasking, I prefer focusing all my attention on one thing at a time. For example, if I'm washing the dishes, I'm engaged. If I'm having a one on one conversation with a friend, I'm engaged. However, if I'm talking to someone while I'm washing the dishes, one of them loses out on my full focus. (probably the dishes lose out because I enjoy talking much more than doing dishes!) Additionally, how engaged I am also has to do with how much I enjoy whatever I am currently doing. If it's very tedious and boring, I am less engaged. But I have found, oddly enough at times, if I deem it very important (even if I don't enjoy it) I will force myself to be engaged.

When it is not shackled with unnecessary superficialities. Gosh, can I say that here? I don't see that giant hook waiting to snatch me off the stage, so, ...yeah. What I just said.

You can even say more.... what are your unnecessary superficialities? Sounds interesting....

For me...it's no mystery: I am most engaged when I am not tired, not distracted, not hungry, and not bored.

Quite frankly, for me it happened when I was perfectly still; that would be comaose for a month a decade ago... Perhaps in Marcus99's words, indeed; "not shackled with unnecessary superficialities"...

My attention is most engaged when I with my horse Zara. I think of nothing else but being with her. I don't think of food (which is unusual), I'm not worried about anything. I am completely in the moment. There are few things in my life that I can say that about.

My attention is engaged when actively participating in an activity.  When listening, I prepare my mind for the importance of the message and visualize myself following the instructions. The best speakers are individuals that choose words (illustrations) to involve the learner.  Lastly, I like to assess what is learn and draw conclusions on  the lessons.  It also helps to share  something of interest: This helps to remember what is learned.

My attention is most engaged when I'm doing something that intrigues me. Also, nothing must be bothering me at the moment. For example, I must have had a good night's sleep, enough food, nothing else on my mind, etc.

When I am sitting quiet and still and meditating  -feels like an out body experience when I am one with my SOURCE.Just HIM AND ME -completely oblivious to rest of the world. That usually happens in the morning at 4 am when most of the world is still asleep and I am awake before everybody else. I feel i am transported into a different plane. It is beyond words what I experience and I feel more productive when I am in this state. I do find it difficult though,to go back to a normal world after that episode of agape -just total bliss immersed in pure love.

I only have one reason to have my attention most engaged; and this is when I talk to the person I so much love. I really listen full time and focused to what those people dearest to my heart are saying to me. I am one with them so I am interested to know their thoughts and feelings. Strangers don't have a chance, if any, it's half-hearted and just brush them off my system.

When I am doing something I love, especially playing jazz guitar. I am self taught, therefore anything I learn which is new, captures me and keeps me there for a while...
