The Atkins diet is the original "low carb" diet. I heard about this diet many years ago, from a colleague in work. I was sceptical at first, but read all the info and checked out the science. Dr Atkins was a heart consultant. Once I was convinced that it was safe and likely to work, I tried it. I was amazed and very pleased with the results. I lost a couple of stone in weight and dropped about 3 dress sizes. I kept the weight off for a long while but eventually introduced carbs back into my lifestyle, with the inevitable result. I am now in the process of getting back onto the Atkins diet, with the understanding that I am "carb intolerant". My body cannot deal properly with carbs, so I will be healthier remaining on a low carb diet for the rest of my life but that is not actually a hardship! A number of other diets follow the same game plan. I understand the paleo diet is similar. Possibly also Dukan diet.
