What key points are essential for you, to make an ideal relationship?
That is, relationship of any kind whether friend, co-worker or life partner. What are the qualities that contribute to having good relationships, in your eyes?
trust...trust...and more trust! Communication is also important.
To make a romantic relationship last for years and years? Passion, intimacy, and committment. But for a friend, co-worker, or life partner? You need trust, common morals, communication, a sense of humor, and a feeling of comfort and ease around them.
Complete honesty, having an openness to one another, and respecting each other's individuality. Also having a common interest or plans to share makes the relationship much more fulfilling.
Finally a question about which I have real life experience. If I simply describe the opposite of what I have done most of my life, I should have a very good answer.
1. I want to be a transparent person. In my close relationships I should have no fear of revealing the true me, with all of it's weirdness and eccentricity and even moral failure. This point includes honesty.
2. I want to be a loyal person. If I expect others to be there for me, I need to be there for them in good times and hard times, even when someone lets me down.
This is the essence of unselfishness.
3. I want to have pure motives in my relationships. Whether it is a relationship with a woman, or a friendship with anyone else, I should have no hidden agendas.
4. The last one is still a mystery to me. Love. At this point it is simply an aggregate of the first three points.
These are extensions of the four absolutes upon which I base my life. Honesty, Purity, Unselfishness and Love.
The true me. That is a journey into the unknown, isn't it. There are so many levels. On which floor does the elevator stop and I can say, 'aha, the real me.' Endless discovery this lifetime, and a joyful explore. Thanks Chris, for a very good answer.
First off, this is merely an attempt to answer this question; however, not necessarily a significantly good attempt. I believe the answer lies in mutuality of at minimum several attributes between the two parties. Is it not this somewhat vague (at first meet) mutuality that perhaps sparks the moment and develops into subsequent meetings?
Our brains crave association; and we can only associate stuff with links that are already in our grey matter (thus, mutuality is this catalyst). When this initial mutuality is followed by additional mutuality the sparks are truly ignited and you have a "hot bed" or good friend...
I believe this may even explain the phenomena of enemies becoming allies (temporarily) to overcome a significant threat (case in point, the significantly different ideologies/countries that pulled together to defeat the evil of Nazism)...
John, look out, here comes an association from my brain... CNN article "Two enemies discover a 'higher call' in battle" - By John Blake, March 9, 2013. First I dismissed as my prejudice was it glorified the military. Read deeper and wept happily....
Mutual Trust and confidence, which can not be shaken by any other individual. You must have such a relationship that you can out rightly reject anything coming in between the relationship.
Consistency is major for me, if your hot one day and cold the next it sends bad signals. That usually causes tension in the relationship.
