This is a hard question because it's those times when it's the hardest to really come up with a solution, but for me personally I find if I do something completely new and different, it kind of helps get rid of boredom and inspire me a bit. I know my life gets a bit "mundane" at times lol. I write full time from home and my only company most days is 4 years old . Over time, especially in the winter where we can't just run outside, it gets a little monotonous and I find myself losing my incentive.
I try to do something new - a different exercise routine, a new craft or DIY project, going to visit a friend I haven't seen in awhile. Just the change of scenery for awhile is usually enough to reign it in.
It definitely happens especially with day to day responsibilities of caring for a house and children. I force myself to do something new or something that cheers me up which isn't always easy when in a rut. Today I'm going for a walk with a friend. Laughing and being outside after a long Winter usually cheers me up and helps me start to climb out of a rut. I'm meeting a friend for a spin class next week and may even write a new hub which I haven't done in a few months.
A very good but difficult question. I would try to do things I haven't done for so long, maybe going out with my husband without children, going for a weekend trip, walking in the woods, visiting a museum ... just things that are different to the daily routine.
Good question. I clean and reorganize everything. Rearranging my environment makes me feel like I'm starting over somehow. :-)
Well, for this guy it would mean "time for a change." However, what I mean by change is precisely a change in environment. I must temporarily change my surroundings either by a hike in the woods, walk with God (backwards) their names are Molly or Callie, a drive up the road to a peaceful and serene place, a deep delta wave length sleep (don't underestimate the power of this), play ice hockey (or some other aerobic sport/exercise), did you know our creativity and intelligence is optimized when our body is in motion and making frequent and quick changes in direction (i.e. playing ice hockey)?
You have to change what you're doing. No matter what, if you're not seeing the results you want, change things. I was stuck in a rut for 15 years and I had to realize that I needed confidence and then I'd be able to change without fear. I did it. I changed my life completely a year ago and I thank God every day.
It depends on the size of the rut.
On a daily basis, I go for a power walk, and either talk to myself, or do different exercises - swinging and moving with change ups.
If I've been doing one thing too long, I jump out and answer a bunch of questions on HubPages - Oh, that's what I'm doing right now.
If I am feeling low, I turn to nature, or photos of nature (like hubs from Eidwedden) and poetry for inspiration.
If I'm really stuck, I start a new creative project, like writing a story.
Listen to music or write. I have to come up with something or do something unless I take a nap! That gets me out of any rut.
If it's a nice day, I play tennis. This is extremely effective for me.
If it's a rainy or very cold day, I watch a movie. This is moderately effective for me.
But, if I can do something productive (like clean out the car) or helpful to someone else (like rake the neighbor's yard), then I feel happy. This usually recharges me and I'm ready to go again!
I watch comedy shows or murder mysteries. I read books that are about simple people with simple story lines.
We all feel stuck sometimes. We want to work but don't feel like it or just can't. We need to be creative but the juices are just not flowing. Here's what to do. read more

What does it take to snap you out of a rut in your life?Sometimes we just get in a pattern of doing the same things (good or bad) over and over again as part of our routine. Does it take a major catastrophic event to break out of a rut or just some introspection?
