    Yes, bad memories, when stirred up, create a delicate situation. It also happens very commonly in deep meditation when memories, good and bad, surface. It requires significant wisdom and patience to handle such situations.

    "Selective memory" reminds me of "selective listening." It is not hard to find people who only listen what they want to; rest is filtered out. Tendency to stay with "what we like" is very common.
