How do you boost your self-esteem and confidence?

Last week, I had a bowling tournament and it went really bad. I trained three times a week and I really saw my improvements, but during that time, it was like I didn't even improve. I knew it was because I was tensed and anxious that I lost focus. In two weeks, there will be another tournament and it's a very big one. I don't want the same thing happening again.

Sorry to hear it didn't go as well as you thought despite your training.

The fact is sometimes ither factors get involved such as nerves which is unfortunate but very common for many people. The more you do competitions the less nervous you will become. Try and switch off and 'get in the zone' where you are completely focussed on the bowling and not the crowd or score or anything else. Maybe listen to some music you enjoy before the game to help calm yourself. Make sure you eat a good diet too as this will keep hormone levels and insulin levels balanced.

There are no 100% guarantees in life but as long as you train hard, as you did last time, and do the best you can then you should start to see both improvements in your skill level as well as your own personal confidence.

    Hope it helps a bit.

You're right. That's what I keep telling myself: I should enjoy, never look at my scores and forget the bad shots I did. I just get very conscious easily. I have a very low self-esteem. But Thank you. Your answer will definitely help. smile

First, I reflect what I have achieved so far including goals. Secondly, I know that a passed my exams so well so I’m qualified. Thirdly, I trust myself and I believe I can. Lastly, the goal I have set motivates me and this way I derive self-esteem.

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you. At times failure is good because we learn from it. Don't be anxious and be focused. Train a lot and trust yourself you can.

After 65 years I know myself well enough not to worry about self-esteem nor confidence.

I guess I have to know myself more and trust in what I can do. Thank you smile

Creating a dream wall helped. Write down goals or accomplishments. You could add pictures to make it easier to look at than just a plain old, boring list. Post the list on your bedroom wall or in your office, somewhere you can constantly see it. Cross a red line through the goals you have accomplished, it's best to add a few you've already done to start the motivation.

That's a great idea, Iburmaster! I would definitely do that and post it on my bedroom wall. big_smile
