Has society reached the point where we will soon request a background check from a date?

With crime on the rise and basic human trust on the decline, do you feel it would be crossing the line to ask someone we're dating to provide a current background check?

No, I don't think it would be crossing the line at all. In this world we live in it is better to be safe than sorry. But, you never know, you could be dating a maniac that hasn't been caught yet? Go with your gut instincts. They are always right for me.

I don't think it would be crossing the line either.  I think that it is definitely something that dating websites should offer their members. And it someone is looking for a potential date, they can select only those that have (or can provide) one.

I am registered on a tutoring website to tutor individuals.  To get more tutoring jobs, a tutor can privately and securely order a background check (for only $7.00) and the security company sends the results (+/-) to the tutoring website. Great idea!

I don't think it would be crossing the line either. If I were single, I would either ask or do a secret background check myself or with a professional in the field. I've been married for 20 years, but I still had my husband go through HIV testing before we were ever intimate. If I was dating him now, I most likely would take that a step further by doing a background check. You have to be careful now-a-days. wink

I had the same idea about conducting my own private background check, but you would need their S.S. number, so they would have to order the check themselves. You were smart to have the HIV test done for your own peace of mind. Good for you!

It's actually not so difficult to do background checks. If you have as little as their name and address, you most likely can conduct some background check. Sites like USsearch.com and Intellius.com can be used for a minimal fee. I've used USsearch.

Yes, you are correct about having the ability to do a background check with just a name and address.  I have done them also.  Thanks for the suggestion!!

If you look back in the history we live in a waves of boom and bust in everything, but it has been always more located for the individual societies, look at Egypt, the Ancient Rome and now America, there is a time when everything is just out of control and booming and people get sense of endless grow and optimism that it will be forever and start to spend like crazy and enjoy life to the full without thinking about tomorrow....and then they crash down suddenly painfully aware that something like 'endless growth' is a myth and start to scrape the bottom again and turn their gaze back from the materialistic values to more intrinsic ones...the spiritual learning starts to be important all over again...now living in more global society maybe this wave will become more global too...
