Even resting with your eyes closed for about 20 minutes is enough to recharge your batteries a little, and keep you going. I'm not a fan of any stimulants, including caffeine. Caffeine will only prevent sleep, it doesn't actually 'wake you up', so to speak. If you have a serious coffee habit, you might feel like you can't function without that morning Joe. Often times, that addiction is confused with the caffeine actually doing something good for you. The truth is, you're so addicted that you can't get to normal without it. But people who avoid caffeine are already there, and don't have that awful feeling when they wake up, so they don't need the coffee to 'erase' it. I would also recommend an apple and a glass of cold water to give your energy levels a boost when you need it. Both the natural sugar and the cold temperature will stimulate your metabolism, which will deliver energy to your body when you need it.
