Does BMI really matter?...People who have BMI 18 are healthier than the ones with BMI 23.

20-25 is considered normal for an adult

    Hello Vathani!

Yes, BMI (Body Mass Index) really matter because it shows your strength,And also show that you are overweight or underweight and thinness. We can not say that who is healthier in 18 and 23 BMI because everyone has different weight and height and by keeping these two things in mind we can assume that who is healthier.Hope this helped smile

    Thank You!

The BMI is a good scale for general guidance on health but not ideal because you will get the likes of professional rugby players who are very healthy but come under the obese category due to the amount of muscle they have. It is, however, useful for the average person who doesn't look after themselves - if you're in the high or low BMI and are not doing anything sporty then it'll highlight potential future health problems.

A better guide is your bodyfat percentage which looks at your body's composition (muscle vs fat).

As to your question, 18 is slightly underweight, 23 is in the higher range of "normal" so the person with a BMI of 23 would be healthier in theory.

No, 18 would mean that according to the BMI a person is underweight which isn't healthy either.

BMI however doesn't take into account that muscle weighs more than fat - so a person with a a BMI of 32 may have large muscle mass and not be "obese" at all.

It's not an accurate system to base health on...but for some assessments its all we have to work on at the present moment.
