What are the best ways to fall asleep

Can anyone recommend any good techniques you use to fall asleep? I have tried herbal remedies such as melatonin but they do not work....

I listen to relaxation/meditation audios through my mp3 player.  Another technique is to focus on your breathing.  Your mind will wander to other things - but keep refocusing on your breathing and you will soon fall asleep.

I always read before I go to sleep. It makes me relax and then my eyes start to get tired.

It works every time. Ofcourse I read about nice things and not "horror stories!" ha

I read a book on this subject, and it said that light has a lot to do with it. The reason we struggle so much to wake in the winter is that the mornings are dark, and there are no light reflectors being triggered in our eyes. So the opposite would apply at night time. A few hours before bedtime you should dim the lights down low, as this will relax and tell your body that night time is coming. A warm bath one hour before bedtime, then wrap yourself up in a snug, and relax, watching some mindless dribble on TV. By this time you should be feeling very drowsy. In fact I have bored myself so much I have fallen to slee............p

When all else fails here's a list of the 10 Best Ways to Fall Asleep

1.Put a little honey in a glass of milk and put it in the microwave for a few seconds.
    2. Put on a TV or radio. The sound will make it easier to sleep.
3 Drink alcohol. This works for pretty much everyone.
4.. Sleep Medication. There are many medications that will help you fall asleep.
    5. Turn a fan on beside you when you fall asleep.
    6. Don’t eat or drink that much before bed time. Food may energize you.
7.Don’t take naps during the daytime.
    8. Don’t drink much caffeine. That can keep you up for a long while.
9.Count sheep or count backwards. It may be old but it will keep your mind off of worries.
    10. Picture a black surrounding when you close your eyes and focus on nothing but that.

And if that doesn't work then it's time to seek professional help.
    Hope this helps.

When you're laying in bed on your back, hold both arms straight up i the air.  You'll be surprised it works.

Other times I just tell myself clear your mind & go to sleep & I repeat this to myself.

    These 2 methods work.

If you're Catholic I stand by this tried and true method: start saying the rosary. I guarantee you will fall asleep in no time. If you aren't or if that doesn't work for you, try counting backwards from 1000 by 3s. It usually does a pretty good job for me.

I always read  or listen to some soft music before i sleep, which relaxes my mind as it tends to chatter a lot at the end of a long day. This usually  works for me.
