What are your thoughts on cremation?
How would you deal with the cremains? Many have an urn in their home; for me, that would kind of freak me out. What if it falls and breaks? Then what do you do? Sweep up the loved one and toss in the trash? My mother's wish was to be cremated; her cremains were buried in the plot with my father.
If I have chosen that way, I will return after I die and let you know.
I'm not sure yet if that's going to my choice, but I won't have a problem with it if I die and my family decides to cremate my remains. What if it's a family member? If that's what they want me to do with them, I'll do it, but I won't keep them around. If no one else wants the remains, I'd either have them buried or get permission from the government to spread them over the person's favorite place. I like what you did with your mother's. My older brother and sis-in-law had a baby that only lived a few minutes and they had her cremated. They still have the urn stored away. Their plan is to bury her with whichever one of them dies first.
My wife and I will both be cremated. I have no interest in keeping her remains, I don't know if she'll keep mine. I'll scatter her ashes at the park where we met. I don't care what's done to mine. I don't get any comfort from visiting grave sites or having ashes in my possession. I've got my loved ones firmly entrenched in my heart.
This would be a great Hub! I know that a lot of cultures of the past did cremate out of necessity, but usually let the remains become dust and given back to the earth. I favor cremation, but only if my ashes where to be spread somewhere in nature. As they say, "ashes to ashes, dust to dust". I never liked the thought of today's coffins that takes many many years to breakdown...meanwhile I would lay there waiting for the last of me to go!
I wonder what GOD thinks about it? Does it mention it in the Bible? I sure what like to know as I donated my body to medical science and after they are done with their study on your body, they have service then cremate you and return your ashes to the person you designate.
I plan to be cremated after my death. I have left instructions that all of my organs that could be useful for someone else should be harvested and that my remains be cremated. I would like my ashes sprinkled over a garden or from Glacial Point in Yosemite. NO WAKE for me! A simple service at my church with the people who knew and loved me best in attendance would be all I would like. The idea of viewing the dead body of a loved one is ludicrous to me!. I would like the people who knew and loved me to remember me as I was while I was alive. I do not want their last image of me being dead and lifeless in a coffin. That's just crazy.
I don't have a problem with it. I believe people who keep the remains around may be a little off, though. I think, along with sheilamyer, that what you did for your mother was a great idea. Even though we have in our possession someone's remains, I think we need to honor them by carrying out their wishes, whatever that might be.
I want my ashes to be thrown anywhere on any piece of empty land. You can do anything in the Philippines, anyway. I also wouldn't want money spent on an expensive urn. The cheapest pot in Uniwide is fine with me. I'll be in heaven with a brand new body, so I don't need to keep my ashes in an expensive urn and kept somewhere to be watched over.

My beloved 18 year old cat, Pokey, has almost died. We thought she had passed a few hours ago, but she is still holding on. What a tough day; my cat that I've cherished since I was a toddler is almost gone. Phew.My mother is bringing her to the vets tomorrow morning to be put down because we think...

DO YOU BELIEVE IN CREMATION OR BURIAL?
by Emile R 12 years ago
Our receptionist at work just lost her father. They don't have a lot of money and they didn't have a funeral, they just made arrangements for his cremation. She said the crematorium told her that her father had to weigh at least a hundred pounds in order for the cremation to be free. There was some...

I'm curious as to what people prefer to have done with their bodies after they die.I'd guess that burial is still widely preferred by most people but I think cremation is gathering steam. (No pun intended!) (That's a lie; it was intended!)Also, I know cremation has been forbidden by some religions...

Have you made any plans for what will happen to your body when you die?Do you think you will be cremated, buried or will you give your body to science for research.
