What are some quick and easy heartburn home remedies?
I'm desperate. I've had horrible heartburn for over three hours now with no signs of it abating. I took some Nexium about 15 minutes ago but it's going to take a while to kick in. It hurts so badly I can barely breathe. I need something to ease the heartburn quickly, but I don't have any Tums or antacids. Does anyone know any quick and easy home remedies that might help for heartburn?
Hi! I hope this isn't too overly promotional of my own work but I actually just wrote an article on this topic for pregnant women and all the remedies work whether you are pregnant or not. Hope this helps! http://madisonresare.hubpages.com/hub/H … -Pregnancy
Thanks for the article. I'm going to keep it in mind in the future. Can't take this kind of heartburn any time soon, so I'm going to keep peppermint with me at all times from now on!
I would avoid getting heartburn the first place but I would warm - not hot, just warm - warm up some milk and add half a teaspoon of cinnamon, stir until cinnamon is melted/mixed in. Drink it when possible while warm.
I'm going to go try that now. Thanks!
Unfortunately, I didn't have access to anything Madison mentioned... and we don't have cinnamon either. I dug through the spice cabinet. Nada. Seems I'm destined for heartburn today. But thank you for your advice; I'm very grateful!
Oh man that sucks! I've had 5 children so I def know what that's like! Regular antacids don't work for me either. My dad is a firm believer in baking soda, a quarter of a teaspoon with a quarter cup of water will knock it right out. Something I also found helps a lot believe it or not, is drinking pickle juice. It always knocked it out temporarily for me. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the advice! It's very much appreciated!
1/2 teaspoon baking soda in a glass of water will help -- but, do not make this a long term or often remedy.
Homeopathic treatment I personally recommend - eat an apple before bed each night, I dont know why but i have gerd, which causes severe heartburn which can damage my esophagus so i have to watch out for it all the time and my doctors all told me to eat an apple every night before bed, even when i didnt have heartburn that day, but just preventative. and it worked. i havent had heartburn in ages.
Does the apple before bed not cause you to wake up all night?
I wrote an extensive article about heartburn, as well as other stomach issues. http://artist101.hubpages.com/hub/IBS-I … Treatments
Among the remedies for heartburn include baking soda, apple cider vinegar, as well as chewing a magnesium tablet, as well as kelp. Dr Teitelbaum developed a tablet for heartburn, called acid ease, which contains kelp. Found to be very effective. My father swore by baking soda. I take magnesium on a regular basis, and knock on wood, I don't have the problem. I take it at night before bedtime. 200-400mg, any more than that and it can cause diarrhea. Hope it helps
