How can you stop thinking about people that make you miserable?

I found this motivational saying on Pinterest, and I really want to accomplish it: "Don't let negative & toxic people rent space in your head.  Raise the rent & kick them out."  HOW can I stop rehashing horrible conversations / being full of dread at the thought of seeing them again, if I have no other choice?

I need help sleeping at night, and being positive at work.  Thanks!!

Motivational sayings help us considerably. While I give my hats of to them, I always say that they are not spirituality. Here is another thought.

"Life is a mirror, and will mirror what you truly are."

The spiritual life begins inside you. You are full of Love but let's say that perhaps right now it's covered up by insecurities, doubt, frustrations, resentments ... a lot of them. (me too) The process of self-discovery or finding peace, is necessarily an inward journey.

I am actually quite pleased with you as you are recognising the problem and seeking to address it. This is self-enquiry. Not too many do this. The answer lies in prayer both interior and exterior and also meditation. I have some nice videos with my love poems and they can be used for meditation. they are very soothing and if used regularly and when nature is at its most peaceful, they will definitely help.

I see that there is a child with you in the picture. I also see a cute smile from you. All this implies hope. Try to create a regime so that you are not burnt out, and avoid the toxic friends when you can. They can be quite life-draining. But again, try to remember that it is always the Light within which guides us. Conscience is also speaking all the time and meditation will teach you how to listen to the inner voice.

I feel for you. Many of us are caught in similar traps and have our own journeys. Practice, empathy, soulful self-giving, make a friend smile and combine all this with prayer and meditation. The spiritual law says that if you do not have, then you cannot give. So let the life-energy feed you in the wee hours of morning and night and act accordingly. The answer ForLoveofCupcakes, is to stay off the cup cakes..Only joking mate!lol....I do have an actual answer that does work "if" you start the training until you start to get the gist of it all, before like most people do you write it off as useless....I've done the training, & it eventually ends negative unwanted thoughts..It also means the end to anger, sadness, jealousy, depression etc, all & only because the training "will" show you that as well as all of your thoughts, your also causing your own unwanted emotions & feelings yourself..I know it sounds ubber bizarre as Joe Rogan would say, but that's where the training got me....So the actual answer is: If you want to stop receiving unwanted thoughts emotions & feelings you have to fully realise yourself, that it's you causing them "will fully" you just don't realise it yet..You can only do that through the training & no one can teach that to you, only you can realise it yourself as that's how we realise anything so you have to practice to realise it..It took me a good month just to get the gist of the training, & most people have given up by then..Anyway it's called Mindful meditation practice, Mindful meditation & emotions & feelings practice, & all available on utube. :-)

I deal with this as well. I self talk to myself and say let it go let it go it doesn't matter. Funny then I sing to myself inside my head amazing grace, hard to think about it when you are doing that! silly but it works for me.
