Yes. I have had it done several times. Some of my crowns are gold, others are the same color as my teeth. It is never a pleasant experience. The old tooth has to be ground down in preparation for the crown, then a mold made for the crown. A temporary, ill fitting piece is put on the prepared tooth to protect it until the crown can be made. It usually is a three week wait in between the prep work and the actual crown fitting. Several times, my crowns have had to be ground down because they change the feel of my bite, causing jaw pain. If you are facing getting a crown, be prepared for lots of inconvenience and follow-up!
