At what point is a chronic health condition a disability?


As examples - people with vision corrected via eyeglasses or contact lens to below 20/200 are not considered visually impaired; people with high blood pressure or diabetes controlled with a combination of medication, exercise and diet are not considered disabled. But, if those same people refused to follow recommended treatments, they would have difficulty functioning.

    Further research suggests that patient noncompliance will adversely affect disability claims; however the distinction between chronic illness and disability is murky.
