both...lifting will build muscle which burns fat both in the process of injurying it while lifting, recovering, and also for every 1 lb of muscle you have it burns around calories a day while resting. Cardio is good for increasing your heart rate to burn calories...running a mile burns on average 100 calories

Cardio will melt away calories.  You really can't lose weight withup doing some cardio to rev the metabolism and consume calories.  However, that being said it is also beneficial to build strength since building muscle will burn fat over a longer period of time. Try doing some daily cardio for 20-30 minutes, and weight training 1-2x per week.

Weight is lost when the bodys caloric intake is lower than the amount of energy it burns.  Whatever gets you to that point works.

I've found cardio burns fat and reduces weight while weight lifting makes me more muscly yet the same weight or an increase because of the muscle mass.

A combination of the two will be best. Cardio help you to burn calories while you are exercising. While weight training boosts your metabolism that you continue to burn calories for as much as 48 hours after your weight training session are over.

If you want to lose weight, aim to get about 3 session of cardio in (interval training is best) and also 3 session of weight training.

Good luck with your fitness goals!
