Why should I buy a split ergonomic keyboard with separate halves?

I work on my computer all day long and I am a full time medical transcriptionist and recently I have been having some pain in my wrists when I type. My family doctor has recommended me to buy a splint ergonomic keyboard to prevent developing carpal tunnel syndrome in the future. Is it true? If yes, then tell me why?

The ergonomic keyboard allows the wrist to remain in a more normal position.  If you look at your hands on a regular keyboard, you will see that they turn outwards.  Sustaining a more normal position will lessen your chances of developing carpal tunnel.  Resting your hands, even briefly, as often as you can, while you are working, will also help.

I don't agree.  Unless you fix your posture, an "ergonomic" keyboard won't make any difference.
