These words are confusing because the past tense is different.
I hang the washing on the same line every week. (present tense)
Yesterday I hung the washing on the line. (past tense)
I have just hung the washing on the line. (present perfect)
The washing was hung on the line. (passive)
They hang people in Texas. (present tense)
They hanged 100 people last year. (past tense)
They have hanged people for many years. (present perfect)
He was hanged for murder. (passive voice)
So a person was hanged, but washing and everything else (jury, curtains etc.) is hung.
