Do you think most people are happy and content with the life they are living ?

Most of Generation X grew up in a fast paced life. Which means they are not patient....which means we always want more. I don't think a lot of people are happy these days because they rely on circumstance and material things to bring happiness.

Most people forget that happiness isn't brought about good circumstances, it's about making the most of your life as it is.

It is really sad though to see millions of people who dilute themselves into depression because they think they have a bad life, or that they can't manage their own stress.

I think most people are discontent because they're waiting for other people or things to "make" them happy, or because what they have isn't everything they want. Unfortunately, through this kind of thinking, such people are doomed to be miserable their entire lives. I have had this issue with my own husband...he's "made his way" in life a couple of times and lost pretty much all material wealth through divorce, and is constantly frustrated that he can't give me more. He works in surgery at the local hospital, so my answer to him is to learn a lesson from his patients...there are people who are suffering from terminal illnesses, or have just lost a limb, or who have daily chronic pain, and most of them are still able to find things to be happy about. Just recently we took our neighbor, a woman with severe rheumatoid arthritis, to the hospital to get a ring cut off. Her hand had swollen to twice its normal size and the ring was causing excruciating pain...but before we were even out the door after the whole ordeal she was contemplating the possibility of selling the ring to an "old gold" dealer so she could buy something special for her daughter. Too many people who have a steady paycheck, physical health, and someone to love them just never take the time to step back and realize how truly lucky they are.

No most people are not as happy as possible-my business is to review the life people live-I get paid to do this-so I can tell you that most people are not as happy as they could be. What is most difficult for me to see over and over again is the fact that most people only have to make one or two changes in their thinking or attitude-and they could be so much more happy-but they just don't do it.

One secret is this-ask someone you love and trust-to tell you just one thing about yourself that they suggest you could change in order to be happier or to get along better with those you love-then listen to this person. If you really trust and love this person-take the advice (if it feels intuitively right to you).

Usually, good people only have to make these changes:

Speak the truth and don't manipulate. We all manipulate to get our way (here and there). So-stop it and face the results of speaking without small bits of manipulations.

Stop the negative mind chatter that so often misleads your moods. Find something to believe in that you can think about when you begin to hear chatter of negativity in your mind.

Physically move your body each day so that you can be healthy. A short walk is a step in the right direction.

Start right now - and your life will shift in the right direction. After some time-you will become a naturally positive person who faces issues head one (instead of avoiding them through manipulations) and lives to create health, wealth and happiness.

I think you are if your not bothering somebody elses world with negative and causing a problem for somebody. If your positive based then yes I believe they are happy. Some people enjoy negativeness and striving to cause problems so therefore no you want be happy, because your looking for the wrong. So if your living life making and impactful positive difference then I believe yes as people we are happy.

I don't think so, I think a lot of people are experts in pretending for some unknown purpose, they need to try and convince themselves.  Just look at Depression stats for verificastion of this.

My answer would be a firm no. Happiness is a choice, not a condition. We can choose to be happy, regardless of our situation (unless it's death of a loved one) etc.

    Negativity breeds discontentment and unhappiness.
I have wondered the same thing as you when I am observing people.

I have learned that it isn't the "situation" that brings un-happiness - it is how we handle it. We should be growing all the time, learning and discovering.

Most folks that appreciate what they have, no matter how little, or how much, are happier people.

    Excellent question. Thanks.
