Can a chemical (an outside organic or inorganic substance) preposefully direct or suppress a change in a life?
Yes. This is modern, western medicine.
A lot of promise comes from designer organism. We can synthesize tailor-made DNA that we inject into bacteria like a virus to reprogram it.
They altered some genes in one single-celled life form to produce insulin faster than harvesting it from pigs.
Science is power, my friend.
And adding to what Daniel J. Neumann said, too, since it was left open...this is also what we call poisoning. There are many, many substances that will dramatically change our health, and probably more for the worse than for the better. There are also those that can make us healthier, and some that are required for life to exist at all...after all, that covers food and water too.
