Given that 100 people at age twenty are all full of opportimism and hope,
what are the determining factors which enable some to become healthy, wealthy and wise, whilst others end up on Skid Row. Why do some become happier with age, whilst others become more and more depressed?
I think it all depends on events that happen in each individuals life, and the choices they make in those situations. For instance, many people who end up healthy, wealthy and wise are very hard-working, watch what they eat, etc. This takes a lot of determination and focus that others are simply not willing to take.
Others may be influenced by harsh realities that make them grow increasingly bitter until they do something that ends them up in jail.
With the happier/ more depressed with age... I believe it is all down to a person's choice. If they focus on negative things their whole lives, they will be miserable. If they find the good in many things, they will be happy. Thats why you will find people who are both healthy and wise that are miserable and low-income families that are happy. It doesn't make sense to an outsider looking in, but it is the choices they made.
Your have just added to the World's stock of wisdom L.R. Hopefully people will read your answer and take away the right messages. People need to realize that every choice has a consequence, even the choice not to choose and to simply drift.
It is true that the only moment we have is "The Now," But we do move through chronological time (or maybe it moves through us) and we need to be able to say in "The Now." 'Today is the tomorrow I worried about yesterday - and I had no need to worry at all...for I planned for it well, and am now realizing the joyful unfolding of those plans.
Thanks for an excellent answer L.R.

What kind of parenting is this? Good, poor, foolish, something else?A friend told me an incident she recently experienced: one of her neighbors came over to borrow sanity napkins (for her 15-year old daughter) and flour, eggs and salmon for her family as they had already sent $300 to a church that...
