What does responsibility mean to you?
Recently I did a hub called "Always and Never: How to Use These Words and How Not To" and in it I take a look at the human trait of responsibility. The ability to respond. So I'm wondering, how do you good people view the word responsibility and what does it mean to you?
Responsibility means keeping priorities straight and being reliable in the commitments one makes. Parents have a responsibility to take care of and proivde for the children they produce and employees have a responsibility to do their jobs well, serve their customers and co-workers well, and remain employed to take care of their families. These are just a few examples, but you can see I think responsibility is about taking care of loved ones and being reliable.
P.S. A person must take credit for their actions-good and bad-in order to be responsible.
I am needed, I have a job at hand, people depend on me, I have an opportunity to prove myself.. can go on .. but will stop here.
I would say that a responsible person cares, where an irresponsible person does not care.
A responsible person will consider the effects of their actions (or non actions), and will take responsibility for the outcome.
if you break it down it really translates to "the ability to respond"
Response-ability. Too many times we react in the heat of the moment before we stop to think about what we're doing. Taking responsibility means that we recognize that we have the ability to respond instead. It is okay to say, "I'll get back to you once I've thought it over." (and mean it!) Rather than always assume we are the victim of whatever life throws at us, we need to assume we always have the right to respond in the way we choose. If something beyond our control happens, we don't need to lash out in our feelings of injustice...rather, we need to think about what we do have control over and act accordingly.
It means there is only one choice in life, and that is to in fact choose,
my answer is short and (i hope) sweet: keeping my word and commitments. taking care of myself first so i can be useful to others in a reliable way.

Being caught up in the debate, I slept on it and upon awakening realized that I, too, have allowed myself to caught in the hysteria. When I or anyone allows this to overwhelm it shortcircuits one's reasoning ability. 1. We are all guilty of prejudice and pre-conceived attitudes. We get them...
