Many scientific studies have been conducted and have shown that children of alcoholics are nearly 4 times more likely to develop problems with alcohol.
That being said, I would have to know more about your specific situation to be able to answer your question. One of which would be, do you drink alcohol, and if so...how much?
My father was an alcoholic, as were many other members of my family. I have one sister in recovery with me. However, my youngest sister doesn't have the slightest problem with alcohol. She is able to drink as normal people (without addictions) do.
Please feel free to contact me through email if you would like to discuss this in more detail. I would be more than happy to answer any/all questions you might have.
Also, after having read some of the other responses, I would like to add that alcoholism is not a choice. You could take your first drink and be perfectly fine, or you could take your first sip and instantly be an alcoholic!
